Bingu responds to calls to resign, Muluzi demand his son’s release

“If I wanted to, I would use the majority I have and amend the constitution to rule for another term, or forever,” he told supporters at a rally.
“I will not resign because that’s not what the law says. I will only be able to do that when my term expires in 2014,” Mutharika said.

World Bank Gives Malawi $30 million for agriculture sector

This is expected to enable 200,000 smallholder farmers improve their incomes and become more food secure. Agricultural diversification will also help Malawi improve its export base which is currently mainly based on tobacco.!--more-->

Police arrested Atupele, a presidential aspirant and son to former president Bakili Muluzi on Tuesday, on charges that he went ahead to hold a rally after city fathers had refused him authority.
This is the second high-profile arrest of a critic of Mutharika in less than a week.
