In Project Management, budgeting is central to all operations; everything thing is reviewed under a particular baseline but in reality, nothing really goes according to budget – something somewhere comes to shatter our perfect plan. Then why is budgeting still preached in all economic life endeavors? The only thing that comes to mind is that we want to feel safe about the future – control gives us a sense of peace. We know the future is unpredictable but we choose to predict it.

Resistance in life is an indication of progress; it is important I mention this since most people interpret resistance (what some people call challenges or problems) as a bad thing. For those who experienced Physics in their secondary school days, the electric circuit may paint a good picture of the importance of resistance to producing useful electricity in the home; without resistance, there will be no voltage; without voltage, there will be no flow of electrons (electric current).

Expectations and Disappointments

The most fascinating book I have ever read is the bible – not because of its vast array of stories which are educative but its promises which appears to conflict with our realities. In proverbs 23: 17-18, it reads; «Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the Lord all day long. For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off». There are so many other verses in the same book of proverbs that asserts the same promises e.g. the hope of the righteous shall be full of gladness (Pr. 10: 28).
