About Africa Blog Forum
You are now looking at The Africa Blog Forum of The Norwegian Council for Africa. Welcome!
The Norwegian Council for Africa works to promote economic, political and social justice in – and for – Africa. We seek to achieve this goal through the dissemination of accurate, fair and unbiased information. Vital to this endeavour is the promotion of African voices and sources of information. The NCA Africa Blog Forum is one way we hope to give a “snapshot” of some of the many brilliant African bloggers on the continent.
We have carefully selected 10 good bloggers from across the continent who blog regularly. One of our bloggers lives outside the continent, but the majority of our bloggers are Africans blogging in Africa.
Just as we are a “gateway to information on Africa” with the index on Africa that started in the 90s and our free biweekly “Africa News Update” (ANU), we are also keen to be a “gateway to the African blogosphere”. To do this, we present our 10 selected bloggers and introducing a new blog post each week as “This week’s blog”. We also do give a summary of all other major blog forums, portals and aggregators that give you access to tens of thousands of other African blogs.
NCA seeks to give a positive and nuanced picture of Africa in Norway. In the Norwegian and Western media, Africa is often portrayed in negative terms (wars, droughts, corruption etc.) and African people as passive sufferers. We would like to show that Africa is in fact a great continent with a great deal of diversity, positive growth and bursting with intelligent people that are active agents for change in their own societies. To convey this message, the Norwegian Council for Africa actively promote African voices in Norway and globally. We want to make information from high quality African information providers widely accessible. This blog forum is one of many strategies that we use in this pursuit.
