Lav økonomisk vekst og sviktende avlinger har gjort store deler av befolkningen i Swaziland avhengig av matvarehjelp. Da Swaziland fikk ny grunnlov i 2005, var hensikten at folket skulle få større makt. Kvinner skulle få flere rettigheter, og domstolene skulle bli uavhengige.
