I november 2010 er det planlagd nytt presidentval. Diplomatiet i Burkina Faso, med president Blaise Compaoré i spissen, har nyleg bidratt som meklar i den politiske krisa i Guinea og har dei siste åra hatt ei meklarrolle i Togo og Elfenbeinskysten.
