Guinea-Bissau: Chissano urges acceptance of poll results

Bissau - The UN secretary general's special envoy in Guinea-Bissau, Joaquim Chissano, has appealed to candidates who lose Sunday's presidential poll to accept the results.

"For the good of Guinea-Bissau, losing candidates in Sunday's presidential poll should accept the results and help towards the reconstruction of the country," Chissano told a news conference shortly after he arrived in Guinea-Bissau's capital.

While "all candidates hope to win, they should know that there will be only one winner," he advised

The peaceful running of the electoral campaign did not surprise him.

"This is a good sign for the whole world that Guineans have decided to unite around their country and embark on a way to development," he added.
