"The proposal for the National Gacaca Court is still in draft; after that we plan to forward it to the cabinet for approval," Mukantaganzwa said."If the Parliament also approves the Bill, what will remain is the establishment of the Court," she added.
Mukantaganzwa stressed that cases of persons placed in the first category are currently handled by the provincial courts. "We compile a lawsuit and forward it to the provincial courts and to the national prosecution," she noted, adding that soldiers who fall under Category One would be tried by the military court.
"We work close with the military prosecution," Mukantaganzwa said. After the establishment of the National Gacaca Court, it will try all cases in the first category.
A senior Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) officer, Maj.Gen Laurent Munyakazi is currently on trial for genocide crimes. He has been placed in Category One and was Friday produced before the Military Tribunal led by Major General Karenzi Karake.
